GUC Nether Heyford

The first club match of the new calendar year was held on the GUC at Furnace Lane, Nether Heyford.

With 24 anglers fishing, the match length was split either side of the road bridge, 16 pegged on the right down towards the stick ups and 8 pegged to left in the boats.

It was a cold start to the day with an overnight frost but the weather improved during the morning and the sun came out for a welcome few hours.

Earlier in the week leading up to the match several hundred pounds of roach and small skimmers were stocked into the canal either side of the bridge at Furnace Lane and for those anglers drawn reasonably close to the bridge the fish hadn’t moved too far and so most of the weights came from these areas.

However for vast majority of those that were in the 16 pegs going back to the stick ups it was very tough going with 9 blanks recorded. On the flip side though for the 8 anglers drawn in the boats everyone had at least 2lb plus of roach.

Drawn on end peg 24 Andy Law had around 80 roach and small perch for 8lb 2oz which was matched by Dave Clawley also with 8lb 2oz of roach from peg 17, first peg in the boats nearest the bridge. The other side of the bridge peg 16 was Les Goodridge with 7lb 11oz of roach and third place.

Sections were won by Mick Goodridge with 7 ounces, John Broughton 2lb 12 ozs and Paul Minney 5lb 5 ozs

1st = Andy Law           8lb 2 oz
1st = Dave Clawley     8lb 2oz
3rd   Les Goodridge    7lb 11oz
